Yes, it can. Trenchless pipelining is a versatile system for repairing damaged sewer lines that works for most situations. Certain conditions can make jobs trickier, but companies like Permaliner Industries have developed ingenious ways to get the work done.
That means that this cost effective solution to damaged pipes is almost always your best option, and it will resolve the problem in just a few hours.
Lining through Y- and T- joints
To line a pipe, a lining coated in PVC resin is inverted into the damaged pipe with the use of compressed air. This can be thought of as long tube-shaped balloon, being inflated into the pipe. The resin coating will harden while the air inside it helps it maintain its shape. A perfectly round, fully functional pipe is formed in minutes.
The obvious problem is that this lining can block off any intersecting pipes. If the damage is close to such an intersection, this can’t be avoided. The solution, though, is just as obvious. A hole just needs to be cut into the newly installed lining, after it hardens.
This can be done from either the repaired pipe, or from the intersecting pipe. The intersecting pipe is the better route, though. All that needs to be done is to send a cutting device down to the end to cut a hole the same diameter as the intersecting pipe. There’s no careful measuring required.
If the intersecting pipe can’t be easily accessed, though, its a bit more of a job. The cutting device needs to be able to cut sideways into the side of the newly lined pipe. The tools for this are available, of course. The tricky part is getting the cut perfectly aligned with the intersecting pipe.
Cutting from the intersecting pipe is preferable. The best option is always to be able to install the lining upstream or down stream from the pipe intersection. Either way, we have the tools to get the job done right, whatever it throws at us.
